bintan day 2

December 25, 2007 at 7:12 pm | In Uncategorized | 1 Comment

Day 2. woke up ard 10, 11? cant remember. had elvin’s breakfast. bread, eggs. tuna. went to visitor arrival hall. previous day had made arrangement to rent a car for 6 hours for SGD$100. left at 2pm. travelled to tanjung pinang. journey was about 90mins? the winding road made me giddy la. the place was quite populated, BUT not modern. 10000000 bikes there. or bicycles with engines attached. had lunch. about $10-15 each. went shopping but bought only 5 packs of noodles. went some seaside place for seafood. ghost town there. nobody was there. made me doubt if the food was nice. $10 for the meal. although it was a seaside food resturant, i tink the nicest dish was hotplate toufu. ironic. went back by 8pm. back to buana4. watched golden path. while others played mahjong, i slept. woke up a bit later. watched resident evil. and they were still playin mahjong. ha. pictures.

hardworking officer makin breakfast. 1 point for elvin.

acted emo and all.

our rented car! $100 for 6 hours! driver included.

us in the car. wj was the photographer. and he was banished to the front seat cos he is the tallest!

random pics.

lunch place.

artistic shot.

tom yam soup. chicken. kang kong. toufu. spring roll. nice? ok la. not that special. but not bad la. better than resort food.

animated. ten continuous shot taken(十连拍). ha

again.

bintan’s biggest shopping centre. 3 story with indoor parkin. pic includes a pouting dave.

roughly wat their shopping centre looks like. and almost EVERYWHERE, there’s are shop selling POLO merchandise. wonder about their authenticity.

random pics of the scenary.

the seafood resturant was super deserted. num of seats: 200. num of customers: 6(just us).

lobster.

can u see the sea snails? the water is dirty lookin cos its sea water.

some random fish. good luck finding it.

crabs. no freedom till its death.

the long tanks where those seafood were kept. elvin featured.

dinner. nth special here. meal was $50 or $60 altogether. decent in sg standard. but i cant imagine any local could afford such luxurity. that’s like 300,000 – 400,000 rupiah la..

ten continous shot again.

nic takin picture with a bird at the resturant. dun ask me why the resturant got bird.

and some other animal in a cage. so cute but poor thing.

after dinner we came back to resort. of the 6 hours we rented the car, 3 hours were spent in it. 2 ways to look at it. firstly, wa lau, that means we only spent 50% of the time not in the car. OR wa, money for the rental well spent, i spent 50% of the time in it!

koi pond at the visitor arrival hall.

mahjong. i was taking a nap.

me takin a nap b4 being re-energized. anyway, do u know some pple believe that a part of your soul is taken away when ur picture is taken while u r asleep. lucky i dun believe that. else i will be so angry.

eating noodles while i was watchin resident evil upstairs. idiots. anyway, when guys have nth to do, they are hungry half the time.

this entry is yet another long-winded entry. n i tink i dun make the trip sound interestin enuff. sorry bout that. if u really wanna know more, come find me. anyway, more info can be found at http://rockthebassist.blogspot.com/, nic’s day 1, nic’s day 2.

bintan day 1

December 20, 2007 at 12:51 pm | In Uncategorized | 1 Comment

Finally, i did smth about my bintan trip. but here’s only day 1. warning, a little bit a lot of photos.

bottom 2 pics are SG ferry terminal and INDONESIA ferry terminal. top 2 were shot inside in the ferry itself. it has pantry and tv mobile can. the tv mobile reception is so much better in open seas than within SG itself. how ironic.

yup, all these were taken at the SG side. inside the ferry terminal is quite nice. but outside is like normal only la. that’s the ferry we took!

(from left) WJ, Wee Wee and Elvin. as u can see, the seats aint very big. anyway, i had a surprise when i came back. share that on day 4 of trip.

Indonesia ferry terminal. not as posh. but its ok!

Factory Outlet. For shopoholics goin to bintan, please leave at least 1 hour to go there to shop. quite good stuff. but we only had like 20-30mins to do shopping, which was very very very very rush.

Our resort had a little booth at the ferry terminal itself. we just needed to go there and wait for a bus to bring us to the resort itself. journey took a little more than 15mins? service was quite good, they took our bags, and brought us to the bus.

for those imaging that bintan is filled with beach huts and booze by the beach, well, not really. the resort is as modern as any resort u imagine. its 1000 times nicer lookin than my crib.

resort again. got koi pond can. this area is like the visitor arrival hall kinda thing. the main accomodations are in this area.

quite nice rite? this place is somewhere near the visitor arrival hall.

a simple map of the place. the whole resort is not that small actually. there’s even transportation within the resort. it is the…..

(from left) elvin, WJ, nicx, liping, wee wee. taken at the visitor arrival hall while waiting for transport.

the buggy!!! its our main form of transport within the resort itself. cos our accomodation was a little far from the main resort itself. ours is a little more private. sort of like bungalows while the normal ones were like the terrence in chalets. pictured here is race buggy driver lewis hamilton’s cousin, fazil hamilton. he drives the buggy like a mean machine, huggin the corners at the buggy’s limits.

our resort! nice. big.

unit number!

our unit was just beside the pool!!! too bad no fiona xie, or some hot babe tanning there.

panorama mode! my favourite mode now! its supposed to be bigger, but my blog outlook not so big, so i shrunk it. kitchen, dinin and living room! and tv had quite a good variety of shows. got Ch 5, 8, hbo, cnn, sports.

kitchen!! pretty usuable. most modern kitchens nowadays are designed too nicely to be practically used.

the amount of food that we brought over! ya. imagine we were carrying these on the ferry. but it still wasnt enuff.

view of the pool from outside the resort.

view of the outside from the front door.

time for exploring upstairs!

the masterbed room, which the girls took cos the guys graciously offered to the girls (actually they quickly put their lugguages there b4 any of us).

their toilet had a bath tub la. which they didnt use.

wee wee and my room, twin sharing.

view of the pool again. this time from upstairs. see, so empty, no one.

after settling in, the palace maids proceeded to wash and sterilize the utensils. the kings were watching tv(see the background).

went back to visitor arrival hall for lunch. korean n jap food resturant. each dish averaged about $22.

and after that was mahjong! the main activity over the next 3 days. i learn quite a bit there. my tuition fee was $4.20.

Stressed up elvin.

dinner first nite was made by wee wee and elvin. thanks. all meals made by anyone is termed as ai xin cang.

the beach view. not that great. dun expect clear blue waters and fishes swimming ard your leg. these are the first few shots that i tried with panorama. as u can see, the exposure not very well done. if u have no idea wat i am talkin about, in short, ignorance is bliss.

okies, day 1 was like getting to the terminal at 7+am. i slept at like 4+ the previous nite, and woke up in 2 hours to check bag and left the house. met WJ to take cab to ferry terminal. collected the tix that was booked online. waited for ferry to arrive. boarded ferry. arrived at bintan. went thru immigration. checked in at resort counter. was brought to resort. checked in proper with documents. brought to unit via buggy. settle in. lunch. surveyed activities avail at resort. went back unit. played mahjong. ate dinner. tink abt wat to do the next day. talk cock and nonsense. slept. quite a normal day 1 i guess. anyway, there’s more pics. but i just dun noe which one to upload and show. travel blog is not that easy to do. anyway, here are some tips.

1. 95% of the island deals in sg cash also. so its ok if u dun bring so much rupiah.
2. everything for tourist is not that cheap as imagined. lunch is SGD$22. chao kuey tiao was SGD$14, i tink only ang mo will eat la. juicy beef burger was $16. fish and chips were $14 i tink. just giving a rough idea of the prices.
3. bring your own food. smth that u like to eat. there got sell some la. but slighly more ex. cup noodles is like $2 at least. bring noodles(especially for guys, tink how hungry u always seemed to be when u have to stay in during army), snacks. u can purchase alcohol at DFS b4 departure from SG. bring over drink and get drunk.
4. activities like snorkling, karting, air rifle, sand dune riding dun come cheap. be metally prepared to spend at least $50 on any ONE of these activities. i wouldnt say its expensive, but just tink of it as holiday expense, u r already there, why not spend a little more. if not mistaken, sea activities are out during monsoon seasons, so if u wanna do sea stuff, dont go during monsoon.
5. bring cards, mahjong, portable dvd player. smth to do. i am sure u wun be at beach, or air rifling all the time. some activities have to fill up the void.

yup. day 2 comin up soon.

it’s a conspiracy i tell u!

Comfort increases taxi fares in the name of helpin cab drivers increase their salary. Honourable. The rest of the cab companies follow suit.

A little history, Comfort Delgro Co. Ltd. is comprised of 2 major parts. Comfort, and Sbstransit. Primary business is transport provider.

Comfort ups taxi fares. Less people take cab, at least for a transitional period. So wat do people take? buses or trains. so who earns? comfort delgro. in fact, i feel it is not a transitional period as i tink quite a significant number will take public from now onwards. but of cos i have no figures to support my wild guesses. but i guess it is a good research to find out.

u up the fares, inevitably, less people will take cab. but as each trip has increased revenue for the cabbies, in the long run, cabbies’ salary will remain about the same. but as more people take public, public providers, namely Comfort Delgro and SMRT enjoy in the long run.

What i cant figure is why the rest of the cab companies also adjust their fare ard the same period as comfort. sure, some cab companies are owned by SMRT, which will enjoy the same benefits as comfort, but for the rest, i tink it may have been wiser to keep to their fares, promote their cabs to customers about the unchanged fares. they may have gain an advantage using price, which asian are particularly sensitive to. and eventually, if they find out comfort’s fare increase made no difference to revenue, it wouldnt be too late to follow suit.

but hey, these are just my complaints. nowadays i take cab about once every 6 months. so the increase is not affecting me much.

sorry bout that.

Back from Bintan and it was fun! anyway, will probably update my blog with the trip when all the photos are consolidated. tink the photos come easily to about 1gb? may need to do some QC on them. and may provide some bintan trip tips when i do the blog!

anyway, here are some boring updates. basically after exams ended on thurs, i did mainly 2 things.

1. watched despo housewives, gossip girls and las vegas. according to fok, there seems to be a script writer strike goin on, so there wun be any new episodes from these shows, and lost, heros, prison break, house. so sian. ya, i am surprised i catch up with about 6,7 serials. i must be mad. n i finally watched silver surfer. cool show.

2. Project Christmas Tree. pictures below. well, sort of went a tiny bit above budget. went out with fok and liz on sunday to shop! first we looked for fok’s stuff. cant say wat, in case it spoils the surprise. went city link(prints), city hall, bras basah(art friends, popular), concourse and PS(spotlight)! my original idea of a white tree did not materialize as there were no small white trees. and fok n liz seemed to be advocates for green trees. well, bought most of the stuff by the end of the day n finished the tree n delivered it b4 bintan trip. whee.

went out to watch Heartbreak Kid by Ben Stiller b4 monday nite ended or rather on tues early morning like at 1am. its quite a funny show. but, please be warned, its mostly sex jokes. tink Something About Mary except 50% more explicit. so please, dun bring your date to go watch it. unless your date is a fan of sex jokes. oh, there’s some nudity too. so please make sure your date is ok with that too. i tink the guys will enjoy the show more than girls. yup yup..

off to photos!

isnt this nice? but very elaborate. tink the decor easily come up to more than $150? or maybe $200.

i like the tree also. it gives a very warm kinda christmas feeling.

arent they cute? haha. too bad i not rich, else i will surely buy them!

i still like them in brown better. ha. but green is quite cute too la. some of them come with bended legs. ha.

the stuff that i bought. looks very little hor. it cost me almost a leg. no $$. =(

bought these from tangs when i went out with PR on friday. so cute! couldnt help but buy them! anyway, a couple of my friends may get this. ha. dun be shocked!

the finished product! ok. it dun look that fantabulous, but effort ok! and budget constrain!

other stuff!!

art friend!

ha. i am ‘in’ in japan! i knew i had jap blood all along!

anyone wants to work for the king? i like this signage. so cute.

dun they look errr, happy(tink of another word for happy, it also ends with ‘y’)…

is her dress really so wrong? newpaper, straits and probably every publishing is talkin abt it. seriously, i tink the dress is ok wat. hollywood people wear like less and zao geng they also dun care. fann wong’s dress is nth compared to them la. so to fann, up for u! anyway, no publicity is bad publicity.

for those interested in how sg survive and keep up, read this article on either 8 or 9 dec! i must say, the garment is doin a good job. so far, its forecast has been pretty accurate and reliable.

ya lor. fat so wat!? but those who are like 100kg, u might wanna reconsider wearing bikini la. no offence. but i dun tink it complements u all. we all wear things that complement ourselves. so chose smth that suits yourself.

i have one friend who tinks i am a perfectionist. ha. i feel i am by far not one. i just cannot stand not doin smth when i have the ability to do it. so sometimes i dun progress forward fast as i am always editin some older stuff. anyway, i do suffer from slight efficiency when that happens but i cant help it!

if u r in any of these, u r a perfectionist! if i were really one, i most prob will fall into category 1 n a little of category 2 sometimes.

i din noe they paid people to give names, but seems like according to this article, or wat i deduce from this article, seems like the money is not well spent at all. i tink the bridge shld just be called Henderson Bridge and Alexandra Bridge. they shldnt bother paying people for such task. if u named it too fancy, people wun associate it to the area easily and that’s goin to be a problem. instead, i tink they shld channel the money to solving traffic congestion or having more free carparks.

today(15 dec 2007) had a 4 page article on transportation in sg. about buses, taxis, cars. no bikes. anyway, as always, garment encourages people to take public and not cars. so why dun people take it? 2 reasons, public is damn crowded during peak hour. i tried that a few times. its disgusting. worst than clubbing. reason 2, people spent a fortune to get a car, why in the blue hell would they leave it at home to depreciate $10-$30 a day n take public? garment’s solution, increase ERP, increase usage charges so that it is high enuff to discourage drivers to drive to work. dumb solution. n u know wat? london n some other places wan to imitate the unique to sg solution. r they stupid? or is itreally a good disguise as an alternate revenue? i tink they shld either increase COE(which i am against) or they shld have a decrease or eliminate COE and reduce road tax for weekend(OPC) cars, or so called cars with red plate. how would that help? it decreases the daily depreciation of cars to somewhere slightly above to takin public. people may perceive to have lost less if leaving the car at home compared to now. so they maybe indifferent to take public or car. of cos takin public will require a fee, but it maybe offset by the hassle free of not requiring to concentrate on the road, jam, parkin fees especially. it combines the best of both worlds! people take public and people get to own cars! so good! n i am seriously against ERP. it really damn stupid. it almost doesnt solve anything. we shld have a no ERP month trial, and just allow all cars onto the roads. then perhaps drivers will be so jammed till they are willing to take public. dun u tink that will work too? compared with ERP now? maybe i shld submit this to Chew on It comics.

okies. enuff of ranting. teo liping says i complain a lot. ha! stay tuned for bintan trip updates!

I always cant remember wat color i have used for my last entry. so today it shall be grey, but i am sure most of u would see it as black. oh well, who cares rite? anyway, exams are over. but i am not as delighted as i thot i would be. i had 5 papers, and just when i thot the last paper was bad and the next one would be worst. the exams ended with a loud BANG. i totally spaced out. meaning, i just couldnt remember anything that i learnt. in short, i’m screwed. now i totally regret goin for honours cos i know 2nd upper is really not in target by the looks of the outcome of this sem’s results. and having anything lower than that sort of defeats goin for honours. BUT, there is no goin back now. there’s only 2 path left, finish the degree or quit, for which, lucky for me, the choice is obvious. let’s just hope 2nd lower would not escape from my hands.

Food for thot: One’s belief is defined by one itself. we define our own beliefs. but yet, most of the time, our beliefs are a result of culture, subculture and social norms. which i find is kinda true but contradictive because if belief was really self defined, why do we always let culture, subculture and social norms define it for us? example, almost without a doubt, most of us will say smoking is bad. why? cos garment, family, tv says so. the problem or cause i feel is that we seldom interpret data that is fed to us, we just absorb without really doin much processin and just assume it to be true. another example (which sometimes drives me nuts) is how tv tells u that being 40kg is fat. 20kg is ideal. well, to conclude, i tink we shld define our own beliefs and not let someone else do it for us. at least dave will try to do that.

okies. so dave finally gets to rest. student life for the past approximate one month have just been plain crazy. projects and exams. goin bintan next week. if anyone needs anything, please let me know.

CS3266 last lecture. supposedly exam hints. notice its icon says million A, as in how to get A for the module. must say this lecturer is quite funny. but his exam paper aint easy.

for those who nv knew, this is wat a year 1 module from computing look like. basically, u have to imagine u r the computer and run the program. this may look or sound easy to u, but i tink it is extremely tedious and when u r in a exam environment, this qns aint goin to be easy.

arts canteen. so lovely. the camera does no justice to the decor.

it is almost sch tradition to receive exam wellness pack b4 the exams. in short, its good stuff for u in preparation for exams. it contains stuff like notepad, food or watever companies sponsor. this sem, i din collect my wellness pack. however, the above was a ‘wellness pack’ by SL. it contains not 1, not 3, but 2 donuts(doughnuts). so sweet hor.

the donuts(doughtnuts). i tink one is double choc, the other was cherry. got a feelin they were from vivo. remember the last time i reviewed the vivo donuts from donut palor? yup, this time round, i found them to be nicer. maybe cos i heated it up. or maybe cos it was free. or maybe it was so filled with love that made it taste much better than the ones i had the last time round.

seriously, the double choc one is damn nice. just look at the choc spilling out! but not advisable to eat in front of your date. imagine talkin or smiling with traces of that choc everywhere in your mouth or lips. yee.

have u all ever wondered why parkin in public carparks on a sunday is free? years ago, or maybe decades, this free parkin thing, as devised by the garment, was a way to encourage families to have family outings at least 1 time a week. i took this photo on sunday. see the barricade is down. meaning there is NO free parking in this carpark on sunday. so much so for family day. screw it. one might argue that this is sorta like a private carpark, being that it is not owned by the garment or any of its departments, but the way i see it, the trend seems to be outsourcing more and more carparks to private companies, like sembcorp, so in the future, please dun expect any carparks to be free at any day, any time or anywhere. let me say it again, screw it.

let me talk about CAI FAN(mixed rice), aka food that u can chose wat dishes u wan in it. i noticed cai fan price is increaing. or maybe i just havent been eating out often enuff. i ordered KU LOK YOK(sweet n sour pork), KA LI CAI(curry veg) and TAU FU(beancurd?) and it cost me $3. maybe i’m poor or backwards but i always thot 2 veg n 1 meat = $2.50. times have really changed. somemore the location was sengkang. the rental there so ex meh? even bishan used to sell for $2.50. anyway, had a minor misunderstanding when i ordered CAI FAN from ard my place that day, i ordered pork(again?), TAU FU(again?) and CHANG DOU(long beans) and was chargerd $2.70. i paid and went home tink CAI FAN is becoming a luxury food. THEN when i ate, i realized the TAU FU was fish cake! refer to above picture as to how i was deceived. it looks just like TAU FU. no wonder the auntie(china woman) gave me funny look when i said i want tou fu and was pointing at fish cake.

been so busy i din had time to cut nails for more than a month! damn long rite? the part that grew out(the whiter part) is even longer that the inner part. but anyway, no more liaoz, i cut them that day.

my black toe nails. now who said i let culture define me. i define watever i wanna do. but anyway, my toe nails are no longer black. i removed them in fear my nails would be damaged as it painted and touched up the nails for at least about 1.5months.

is it a big key or is it a small slipper? go figure.

cat tryin to act cute.

thief tryin to rob an atm. lucky i had photographic evidence.

ciao. hope newspaper ltr will inspire me to blog again soon. nitez.
